The Taiwan-Sweden co-production film "Neon Dreams" will hold a ceremony to mark the beginning of shooting in late December at the futuristic-looking abandoned ‘UFO’ community in Sanzhi, Taipei County.

The director of the film is Hakon Liu, who is half-Taiwanese, half-Norwegian and was raised in Taiwan. The Best Actress award winner of Cannes, Pernilla August, is to star in the film, while Huang He, a Taiwanese star, will be the co-star.

Liu had long before chosen the so-called ‘UFO’ community, an abandoned resort in Taipei County’s Sanzhi Township, as the site for shooting the movie.

To facilitate the filming process, the Taipei County government has granted their request of filming in the deserted resort, which was originally to be abolished soon.

The county government also set up a filming committee on August 21 to better help promote the county as a location for the movie industry. Since its establishment, the committee has helped several local filming projects.

The committee is expected to work with Hayashi Masayuki, a Japanese director, to film a documentary called “Hearing The Wind ~ The Story of Jiufen,” in the future, to promote tourism in the county.
